LoVe this craft. I seen this idea in my local wood shop & had to copy them. So cute, super easy & so cheap.
So I started out with this piece of wood. It's thick and only cost me $3.95 I believe.
I had the wood store drill a hold in the top for what I call a dowel. Maybe that's not the correct term but that's what I call it. I painted the piece of wood black. Top, bottom, front, sides & back.
I then took an 8x10 photo of my hubby and I and cut the edges slightly so that the picture fit a tiny bit smaller than the size of the wood.
I glued the picture on with gorilla glue {but I'm sure any type of wood glue would be fine}
I also painted the dowel for the top and took this amazing stuff called Mod Podge and very, very, VERY lightly put a coat over the picture. Mod Podge can be great but you only need a tiny bit. Don't brush it on hard, just use very light strokes. The end result makes the picture look like it's part of the wood. Pretty cool close up. Probably hard to get the effect via blogging.
Then I sprayed the sealer over the picture and over the piece of wood, added a black blow on the top and that's that. Took me about 15 minutes and it looks super cute on my dresser in my bedroom.
I really could get use to this crafting on a daily basis.
